ZigBee is a wireless communication technology like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. You can think of it as a language that allows the smart light to talk to each other, and to control their hub. If you are sending a signal to the router you can turn a Hue bulb on, all of this happens in a fraction of second because of the connection to the cloud can control your lights from anywhere in the world where you mobile phone is connected to the internet.

Is Zigbee signals secure?

Yes, it is safe, Zigbee is the local network where none of the Hue’s bulbs directly connect to the cloud. And all of their Zigbee transmission back and forth to each other and to the Hue Bridge also follows standard encryption practices. The Philips Hue team has been developing and refining with regular firmware updates for several years. You have to connect the Hue Bridge directly into the router with an Ethernet cable. Each Hue Bridge has an exclusive verification key and it cannot use by other persons. Connecting anything to the internet always comes with the risk but Philips Hue has a long, solid track record of keeping its platform secure and also it addresses the vulnerabilities whenever they pop up.
